The Alchemyst - Michael Scott
This novel should have been an automatic 5 star read for me - there were so many elements that sounded incredible to me! Unfortunately, it was not to be...
Sophie and Josh are twins who find themselves in the middle of a battle between good and evil - Nicholas Flamel, the famed alchemist, and Dr John Dee, an immortal magician and necromancer. They quickly realise that all the stories they thought were make-believe are more real than pretend!
Rating: 2 out of 5 stars. It's not often I give a score this low...
Age Suggestion: 8+ if they can get through it
Ability Range: 10+
Content Notes: Nothing stood out as being worth mentioning. But that may say something about the story as a whole. Not much worth mentioning.
This took me an unusally long time to get through. I know a few people who raved about this though, so please don't necessarily cross it off your list. I'm tempted to listen to the second book on audiobook to see if it's worth continuing with the series, since in theory, the concept is totally up my alley!
I wish I could write a longer review, especially because it took me so long to read! But please, feel free to make up your own mind and tell me what you think!
